How to Add Music to Your TikTok Videos
TikTok videos are more fun with music and sounds. Lucky for you, the app has an extensive library of sounds to search, discover, preview, and instantly add to your videos. It’s extremely easy to find and apply a sound to your video, but there are some restrictions with customization.
Open the TikTok app on your Android or iOS device and tap the Add (plus sign) button in the bottom menu to shoot a new video.
If you have an existing video (or videos) stored on your device that you want to post to TikTok, you can upload it to the app and then add a sound to it.
Tap Upload to the right of the record button.
If you're recording your video through the TikTok app instead of uploading it, you can skip ahead to step six.
Tap the Select (circle) checkbox in the top right of the video thumbnail (or of multiple video thumbnails) to select it.
Tap the video itself to preview it. You can also switch from the Videos tab to the Images tab at the top if you want to include photos as well.
Tap Next in the bottom right corner.
Optionally crop your video, change the speed, or change the orientation before selecting Next in the top right corner.
Step six and seven are for users who are recording their video through the app, so from here, you can skip down to step eight.
If you're recording a video directly through the TikTok app, tap the big red Record button to take small bursts of recorded video or alternatively tap and hold it to keep recording the whole way through.
Optionally apply effects using the buttons on the preview screen and then tap the checkmark button.
Select Sounds in the bottom left corner.
Browse through TikTok's built-in library of sounds using the categories or by searching for something specific using the Search field at the top.
Categories like Recommended, Playlist, Gaming, Hip Hop, Greatest Hits and more are previewed on the main tab. Tap All in the top right of any category to see all sounds included in that specific category.
Note that sounds have different time lengths. Some might be as short as 10 seconds while others are as long as one minute. Make sure to select one with the appropriate length for your length of video.
Tap a sound to hear the clip play and then select the checkmark to the right of it to apply it to your video and preview it as the sound plays.
If you want to change the sound, just tap Sounds again in the bottom left to choose another sound. If you come across a sound that you want to use for a future video, tap the bookmark icon to the right of it to save it to your Favorites tab.
Tap Volume in the vertical menu on the right to adjust the volume of the Original sound and the Added sound up or down, then tap the checkmark when you're done.
Finish editing your video with optional effects, text, stickers and more.
Select Next in the bottom right to add a caption, set the visibility. When you've finished making your adjustments, tap Post to add the video to TikTok.
If you want more customization options, you can also add your own sounds to your TikTok videos.
